Since 1956, Boehm’s has brought Alpine charm to the Eastside with its Swiss-style chalet, hand-dipped chocolates, and a viewing window where you can peek into the candy-making magic.

Founded by Julius Boehm — an Austrian immigrant and Olympic athlete — this local gem still uses many of his original recipes. You’ll find chocolate-covered caramels, nut clusters, and even a chocolate chapel on site!

You guessed it — Redmond, WA is the Eastside suburb that helped inspire the setting for Pixar’s Onward.

Writers drew from the Pacific Northwest’s unique blend of lush forests, tech campuses, bike-friendly streets, and cozy suburban neighborhoods. Sound familiar? That balance of modern life and nature mirrors the enchanted-yet-everyday world in Onward — where centaurs drive cars and unicorns raid trash cans. 🦄🚗

Redmond’s transformation from forested farmland to a global tech hub gave creators the perfect canvas for a story about brotherhood, nostalgia, and magic hidden in the mundane. ✨

🎬 Fun fact: Dan Scanlon, director of Onward, mentioned that the Pacific Northwest’s landscape and layout were major influences when designing the fictional town of “New Mushroomton.”

🧠 Trivia Answer: Issaquah, WA!
Before it was all about hiking trails and salmon runs, Issaquah was a gritty mining town — once called Squak — that powered Seattle with coal during the late 1800s and early 1900s. 🚂

The Issaquah & Superior Coal Mine and nearby shafts helped define the early economy of this Eastside community. Today, you can still explore parts of that past on hikes through Squak Mountain and Grand Ridge, or take a guided History Hike to a real mining site.

It’s one of the few towns in Washington where you can literally walk through its underground past.

Have you ever done one of the mining hikes around Issaquah? Drop a ⛏️ if you’re adding it to your list!
