What's happening at the corner of our building? Pedestrian improvements! Supervisor Alcorn's office explains in his weekly newsletter:

What’s happening: As you drive along Sunrise Valley Drive, you may have noticed the ongoing utility work between Soapstone Drive and Reston Parkway. This is preparation to build a sidewalk along this stretch of Sunrise Valley Drive on the road’s north side.

Background: The Board of Supervisors accepted the land from developer JGB Smith last year (see my motion to accept the land), and this approximately $4.5 million project to complete the missing 1,500-feet of sidewalk is in the county’s Transportation Priorities Plan.

National Realty, located in the Hartke Building at the corner of Reston Parkway and Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston, is an official Marine Toys for Tots drop-off location. Stop by 11890 Sunrise Valley Drive any weekday from 9-4 and drop a new, unwrapped toy in the donation box in the lobby. All toys will be distributed to needy children within Fairfax County and to Herndon & Reston children via the non-profit Herndon-Reston FISH, Inc. Toys should be for the ages of 2 months to early teens. The last day for donations is December 10.

The owners of the Hartke Building have supported the No Fairfax Casino Coalition in many ways, and are relieved that the Casino Bill was "passed by" in committee yesterday.
