A spooky weekend is coming up around Reston and Herndon. 🎃

Friday through Sunday is packed with Halloween events, fall traditions and a few local favorites, including Halloween on the Farm, Walker Nature Center’s Trick-or-Treat Trail, the Herndon Homecoming Parade, Reston Town Center’s DJ Dance Party and Trick or Treat Beyond Market Street.

There’s plenty happening beyond Halloween too, from farmers markets and live music to Arts Herndon events and Reston Community Players. And a quick look ahead: BreadBreakers Community Dinner is happening Tuesday evening at RCC Lake Anne.

Voodoo Brewing is finally opening in Herndon. 🍻 The Pennsylvania-based brewery will open its first D.C.-area location on Saturday, October 24 from 11am to midnight, at Makers Rise near the Innovation Center Metro.

Expect Voodoo craft beers alongside hand-stretched pizzas, smash burgers, wings, w**e and seasonal cocktails. There are even pinball machines, and the team plans to add trivia, live music, DJs and stand-up comedy to the mix!

BreadBreakers brings local residents together over a shared meal and meaningful conversation, creating space to meet new people, hear different perspectives and connect beyond the usual small talk. The event is free, including the meal, with optional donations welcomed to support the program.

The next gathering is happening Tuesday, October 27 at 6:30 PM at the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne. BreadBreakers founder Michael Graham will also be featured in a TED Talk on October 24, just a few days before the Reston event.

Fall-A-Palooza is coming to Reston Station this Sunday, October 25, from 4–7 PM. 🍂

This free community fall festival will take over Reston Metro Plaza with a petting zoo, bounce house, glitter tattoos, photo booth, co****le and more. A DJ kicks things off from 4–5 PM, followed by local cover band Gonzo’s Nose from 5–7 PM.

There will also be plenty of fall food and drinks available for purchase, including Bavarian pretzels, apple c***r donuts, gelato, hot chocolate, seasonal cocktails and spiked apple c***r. Plus, Sip-n-Stroll means adults can grab a drink while exploring the festivities.

We spent a surprising amount of this week's episode correcting each other. Kathy had Halloween on the Farm on the wrong weekend. Graham called them "turkey days" until Kathy reminded him they're turkey trots. And when we got to the housing numbers, Graham said the word "crash" about condos twice before Kathy talked him down.

So yes, it was a fun one to record.

We started with Kathy's night on the red carpet at the Washington West Film Festival, then Chaatwala in Herndon, which made the Washington Post's top 40 list. Kathy looked up how to pronounce chole bhature on YouTube before we hit record, and we still haven't eaten there. We also talked about a free community dinner coming up at Lake Anne and everything on the calendar between now and Winterfest.

Then we got into the numbers. Reston's median price dropped this fall even though house and townhouse prices went up, and Herndon condos have had a rough year. We did our best to explain how both can be true at once.

Herndon just landed a spot on The Washington Post’s list of the 40 best restaurants in the D.C. area. 🍽️ Chaatwala at 1050 Elden Street came in at No. 36 on critic Elazar Sontag’s 2026 list, which was created after visits to 189 restaurants across the region.

The Post specifically highlighted the dahi bhalla, lentil dumplings served in yogurt, and chole bhature, a chickpea curry paired with puffy fried bread. And Chaatwala wasn’t the only Fairfax-area restaurant to make the cut. Restaurants in Falls Church, Annandale, Fairfax City and Vienna also earned spots.

A pretty big moment for a restaurant right here on Elden Street. Have you been to Chaatwala yet?

ChalkFest at Reston Town Center is back this Saturday 🎨

Public Art Reston is turning the streets of Reston Town Center into one big canvas on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s free and open to everyone.

Invited professional artists draw alongside amateurs, families and kids, with prizes in each category. Between squares you’ll find live music, face painting and plenty of places to grab a coffee or lunch ☕

Anyone who wants to draw needs to register with Public Art Reston first. Before you head home, vote for your favorite in the People’s Choice category. Online voting closes at 5 p.m. 🖍️
