I consider myself very patriotic. I love this country, I love the freedom we have in this country and I love that if you work hard enough, you can become anything you want. I love the religious freedom we have and that we have the ability to choose our course for ourself. I did not watch fireworks and even go to a fireworks show. Instead my wife and I were home trying to keep the dogs from going crazy from all the noise. So what is a patriot? Unfortunately, I don't think we have a lot of Government officials who are Patriot. Generally they seem more interested in self preservation and power, not what is best for the county. To me a patriot is someone who loves what is best about this country, who believes in this countries exceptionalism and some who works to bring out the best in us as a people and country. Many of us don't have a huge voice, like a politician or someone famous, but we can still influence those around us for good.
So lets are there. Lets start with Love, Share and Invite everyone around us to share in everything that is good about this country.

Pillar #5 Last pillar entry
Travel: Yesterday I left Idaho to attend our family reunion in Utah at one of the lakes. This year with all the rain we've had, plus the snow we received during the winter, the hills and mountains are fantastically green, the crops are growing and the lakes and streams are full. In some cases, to full.
This is a trip I never made before, but I hope to make it many more times. We are so lucky in live in a country where there is such beauty whether it be the trip I just made, or the Ocean and other areas of the country. WE live close to Yellowstone. I think I went into the park 10 times, this year, only once so far. I have not got enough of the natural wonders and the majesty of the animals.

Pillar #4. I may show my age a little by sharing this, but the music of the day when I was growing up was: the Dooby Brothers, the Monkies, Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Neil Diamond, The Beatles and later Paul McCartney, Simon and Garfunkel, The rolling stones and The Beach Boys. Later, The eagles, the Who, Areosmith, Queen and Fleetwood mac. These were the days when music sounded like music. It didn't have to be loud to be good. I love those days. There has been good music since, to be sure, but those old groups really had something special, especially Chicago with all its brass. David Foster wrote some music for Chicago that didn't include the brass and it would good, but not like the glory days.
You never want to live in the past, but I wouldn't mind to have a return of that kind of music.

Pillar #3. Last week of my pillars and after today there are only two left to go.
Today is Real Estate: Along with Real Estate investing comes education. Always learning new skills and technics to sharpen your craft and tool kit. In Real Estate there is always the possibility of needing to pivot from one strategy to another. For example: you are doing a fix and flip, but it doesn't sale. What do you do: you could pivot and turn it into a short/long rental, you could do a lease option. you could even sale it as a owner finance. If you didn't know about these strategies, you would be stuck and maybe even force to sale at a loss.
Real Estate can be a puzzle sometimes, but that is what makes it fun and enjoyable. The $ isn't bad either.

Pillar #2 Family
From my earliest memory, it was important to my mother that as a growing family we got together for family reunions. I grew up in Oregon, so each year we would all gather at the beach and have a lot of fun and create lasting memories. As more of my older sibling got married and moved away, families reunions were held at other venues. I have photo albums my mother put together of these gatherings that go way back. These were the best of times. I have continued with that tradition as I have raised my own family.. It is harder now as my kids have gotten married, had their own families and as they have gotten busier with life, sports and moved away.
However, the importance of staying close as a family remains the same. Families are forever and we have to make ever effort to make sure life doesn't get in the way of that important value.

Pillar #1. This is the last week of doing my five pillars. It has been fun for me and perhaps insightful to who I am and what important.
Today is Faith: Why did I pick faith as my #1 pillar? The reason is foundational, to believe in God no matter who you believe that is should be a core believe. The belief in something bigger then yourself and to belief that there is a reason for living, the belief between right and wrong, to believe that life continues after death and that there is some better and that there is something to work towards.
I believe that God lives and that life is eternal and that families can be eternal and that you can receive help towards those beliefs if you ask and listen. That is who I am.

Pillar # 5, which really is Pillar 4. I guess I got them mixed up.
Music: Have you ever heard music so fine that it gave you goose bumps? That's what I'm talking about. I've been listening to music that good before I go to bed. The skill of the different artists are amazing and inspiring. There was a day when I good sing reasonably well, those days have come and gone, but it makes my heart swell to listen to others. There is music out there, so inspiring, so amazing, and so breath taking, why would anyone listen to music that brings you down or talking about evil or doing evil to others.
Of course the choice is your, but I choose to be inspired and lifted up. I hope you do as well.

Pillar # 4, Travel
I know it is Fathers day and I should post something meaningful about Fathers, a subject I have a lot to say about. But for the sake of the course Im taking, I need to stick to me 5 pillars.
Traveling doesn't always mean to exotic places. Sometimes it the simple, ease trips that can have the most impact and can be the most fun. In my case, in 3 hours to the south I can be at one of my son's home, or three hours to the north, I can be to my daughters house or better yet in 25 minutes I can be at another daughters house. All enjoyable, all are some of the best trips and cheapest trips to make.

Pillar #3 Real Estate
If I had it to do over, I would have started my real estate journey 40 years ago, but in truth it wasn't the right time and I didn't have the knowledge and the hand holding of mentors and community that I have today. Everyday I learn more and become more aware of the endless opportunities within the umbrella of real estate. It actually is a little hard to zero in on the best direction moving forward given the state of the world around us, but not even that, just deciding do I continue with fix and flips, or move to multi family, or buy and hold, new builds, or a wide range of other choices. Then you have to look at the team you have and what we are best suited to do as a group. It is very exciting, sometimes concerning and always full of opportunity to bless the lives of others but also me and my family.
Real Estate is the best!!
