I want to thank everyone who took the time to acknowledge MinSu a/k/a Mister Astors passing this past Friday. Many of you knew him only through my posts and naritive. I just want to share with you his story in case you did not know. He was born in South Korea and was taken away from his mother at 2 weeks old. My daughter saw him shivering in a pet store window in Seoul where he lived with her before coming to the United States.
We ended up being his care givers just over 8 years ago.
He suffered from many chronic conditions. One being highly allergic to almost everything possible.
He wore a cone to prevent him from his non stop scratching of his ears and eye.
He was on cyto point untill we found out that it interferes with his heart medication. Eighteen months ago Alyssa noticed how lethargic he was. We rushed him to the emergency hospital in Brewster. Lucky for us a top canine cardiologist was on staff and put him on the right track. Unfortunately along with a heart murmer they found a tumor on his spleen and wanted to remove the spleen. He was in no condition to have that done. We also discovered he had chrystals in his urine and a high liver enzyme level. The cardiologist said if he lived 6 months it would be an A.
Alyssa and I spent the last year and a half making sure he was on his heart medicine regiment. I would get up at 5 am to go out side with him , then we ate and then waited a half hour for the heart medication. Then the morning walk. Alyssa made his food either boiled chicken or salmon or turkey chopped meat.
She would make sure he was let out every 4 to 5 hours after eating again at about noon.
We lived his schedule and one of us made sure he was on it.
This past week was very sad for all of us because we did not know his tumor grew so big that it took over the space by pushing on his stomach so he couldn't eat.
After rushing back to the emergency animal hospital in Brewster and another ultra sound then came the sad news. I'm sorry but there is nothing else we can do. My heart sank into my stomach.
as Mister and i headed home.
Just last week we drove home from Fla
He seemed happy to be back as he reacquainted him self with every room.
Mister Astor was very smart and would group his toys and balls according to both shape and size.
He maintained eye contact and always made sure you knew what he wanted.
The house seemed so empty this past week.
I looked at the clock at 5 am and did not get up or out of bed several times this past week.
When I did get up and I looked in the space where his bed was , it felt like the house was not the same nor will ot ever be again. At noon I was wondering if I could get home to feed him or let him out or maybe Alyssa did only to realize he is gone. Having a special needs pet is an experience we will never forget.
We will always remember his personality and his loving manner most of all his happy go lucky attitude always ready to snuggle up against you or lick you a million times.
I wish we could have done more even though he lived longer than expected.
Now you know the rest of the story.
Sleep in peace Mister Astor a/k/a where ever you are.
