Chester County Issues Public Notice Regarding Unsolicited Property Related Phone Calls

Chester County has been made aware of multiple reports from residents receiving unsolicited phone calls regarding their property. These callers have reportedly asked residents about selling their land or timber and, in some cases, have falsely claimed to be calling on behalf of the Chester County Property Information Department.

Please be advised that no such department exists within Chester County.

The Chester County Tax Assessor’s Office, Auditor’s Office, and Treasurer’s Office do not, and will not, provide bulk or batch property owner information for solicitation purposes and are not affiliated with these unsolicited calls. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited calls related to their property.

From Chester County Administrator, Brian Hester, “Beginning this week, Chester County Tax Assessor will mail notices of assessment to property owners. I want to assure our residents that these are legitimate communications from Chester County Government and should not be confused with unsolicited phone calls, text messages, or other scams.”

Official assessment notices will arrive by mail on Chester County letterhead and will contain information specific to your property, along with any necessary instructions. If you ever have questions about a notice you’ve received, please contact the Chester County Tax Assessor’s Office directly – (803) 377-4177.

If you feel that you have been the victim of a scam or other criminal activity related to these fraudulent communications, please notify the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
