We are filling out the rest of our board.

Unlike most local boards ours must be (per our bylaws) diverse and include representation from across the Tri.

It is not a ‘resume board’ - something you list on your resume to look good, while staff does all the work.

We need members who will be fully engaged and work toward our goal of creating permanently affordable housing. We meet monthly for an hour.

One third of our board should be earning less than 80% area median income (~$62K).

Please share us with any friends or colleagues who are builders, bankers, lawyers, housing advocates, and lower income residents. We need reps from Kennewick, Spanish speaking highly desired.

Not sure you can commit to the board? We’ll have various committees than need help too- so if you’re at all interested please reach out!

Port of Kennewick’s Board of Commissioners recently approved a Letter of Interest submitted by BlueChart Homes proposing to build 300 single-family residential homes in a variety of attached, detached, row houses and townhouses over seven phases at Vista Field.

Attended the NW Coaltion of Community Land Trusts Gathering last week in WW. We met many successful CLT leaders and learned about their work.

One of the orgs we learned about helps folks in manufactured home parks buy the land under them.

What do you think? Is this an option we should explore?

At Sherwood Village, residents are now homeowners. They pay a bit more each month to keep developers from buying their property.

Lahaina is using the community land trust model to conserve their community.

As burned properties come up for sale in Lahaina, many worry outside developers will scoop them up. Some are turning to a tool that's helped other towns after a disaster: a community land trust.

Why does this matter to a community land trust (CLT)? Because decent, affordable, housing is in short supply. Most CLTs incorporate higher sustainable building standards to ensure homeowners are not burdened by heating and cooling their homes. Also, for us "Muricans" 1.5 degrees C equals 2.7 F. That means a lot of change in heatwave length, allergy season, etc., so having a clean energy efficient home can improve lives and prevent asthma.
