I recently heard that some agents do not attend home inspections and instead leave the home inspector on the property while they tend to other real estate matters.
Iāll be honest = that gave me pause.
A home inspection is not just a box to check in a transaction. It is also a time when someone is being given access to another personās home.
That matters.
When an agent opens a lockbox, that access is recorded. From that moment forward, there should be clear responsibility for who is in the home, how the home is accessed, and whether it is properly secured when everyone leaves.
I know schedules get complicated. I know inspections can take hours. I know we are all juggling real life while managing real estate transactions.
But leaving third parties unattended in a sellerās home is not something I take lightly.
Doors, sliders, windows, gates, garages, lights, pets, personal belongings = all of it matters.
As listing agents, our job is not just to get the contract signed. Our job is to protect the seller, the property, and the process all the way to closing.
Access is a responsibility, not a convenience.
For the love of home, please treat every property like someoneās life is still inside it - because it is.
