Today, our thoughts are with the residents of Darby House, a neighboring senior apartment community that was affected by a devastating fire on Saturday, July 4th. In addition to the services listed below, we will be accepting donations of bedding, clothes, shoes, and unused personal hygine items at the rental office. Most of the residents were evacuated in their night clothes. Although it has not been mentioned, many of the residents also had furbabies that may need assistance as well. Dog and cat food donations are welcome and you may reach out to Henrico County Animal Control to see if they may need assistance serving the furry residents of this horrifying ordeal.
Breaking News: Commonwealth Media Group and other local media have reported that a fire broke out at Darby House, overnight Saturday, July 4.
This fire impacted the roof of the senior apartment building and, according to the news, at least 60 residents are displaced. Thankfully, everyone made it out safely.
We contacted property management and Henrico County staff first thing this morning to see if they were aware of anyone in need of assistance. Henrico let us know that DSS and Emergency Management are assisting residents.
We serve a few residents in that building already, but we are putting a call out to encourage other residents that may be in need to contact us by phone at 804-864-5797.
We are closed today, but we will be checking voicemail messages.
We will put out a call to volunteers and donors once we have a better idea what residents need.
