Well, hello . This week we are escaping to New Zealand. A quiet stretch of shoreline on Lake Rotorua. What I’m loving is a place called Utowana at 61 Bennetts Road, listed by my Sotheby’s colleague Shane Hall.
It’s a lakeside cottage designed in the late 1930s by James Chapman-Taylor. The kind of architecture that feels grounded and timeless. Warm wood. Thoughtful proportions. Windows that frame the water instead of competing with it. Across the lake sits Mokoia Island, adding a distinctly New Zealand sense of place.
But the detail I keep coming back to?
This property has been in the same family for more than seventy years.
Three bedrooms in the cottage, a separate guest sleepout, and more than 1,000 square meters of lakefront land with a boardwalk tracing the shoreline.
Some homes are designed to impress. Others are designed simply to live well. This one feels like mornings by the water, long conversations outside, and the quiet rhythm of lake life.
