🍂 The 2026 Fall Color Forecast is officially here!
If you’re planning to catch the legendary Virginia autumn glow, timing is everything. Because of our state's diverse elevations, we experience a "rolling peak" that lasts nearly a month. As a Richmond, VA real estate expert, I’m always tracking these shifts—not just for the views, but because fall foliage plays a massive role in maximizing curb appeal for sellers hitting the market this season.
Swipe through ➡️ for my top 18 spots to catch the colors, broken down by region and drive time from Richmond, VA.
The 2026 Peak Breakdown:
📍 The Mountains: Peak is happening NOW (Oct 17-18). Head to Shenandoah National Park this weekend for the best high-elevation vistas.
📍 The Piedmont: Richmond VA and Charlottesville are looking at a late October peak. This is the prime window for showcasing real estate in historic neighborhoods like The Fan.
📍 The Coastal Finish: If you miss the inland peak, head east toward the coast in early November to catch the late bloomers.
Pro Tip: For the best local views without leaving the city, visit Libby Hill Park or Hollywood Cemetery in late October. The way the autumn colors reflect off the James River is a great reminder of why the Richmond VA lifestyle is so coveted.
