Property taxes at closing can be confusing, but the basic idea is simple.
Seller: Credits the buyer for the seller’s share.
Buyer: Pays the tax bill when it comes due.
Because Indiana property taxes are paid in arrears, the closing process prorates the taxes so each party pays their fair share based on the time they owned the property.
