Grateful for such an insightful morning at the Santa Fe Chamber breakfast today. It was incredibly informative to hear leaders from across the state speak on the key issues shaping New Mexico’s future, from housing and economic development to workforce growth, education, energy, and public safety.
A truly hopeful theme throughout the discussion was the collaboration happening across party lines, with both Democrats and Republicans working together toward a shared goal of making New Mexico the best it can be.
It was also exciting to learn that New Mexico is now a national leader in site readiness and utility readiness, creating faster turnaround times and greater certainty for companies considering expansion or relocation here. Combined with our growing reputation as a global leader in aerospace and our ranking as a Top 5 state for job growth, it’s clear our commercial real estate and economic development footprint is only getting stronger.
One of the most impressive data points shared was New Mexico’s position as a national leader in industrial energy affordability. New Mexico now ranks #1 in the entire country for lowest average industrial electricity rates, at approximately 5.43 cents per kWh in 2024, with costs continuing to decline year over year.
For manufacturers, aerospace, data, and large-scale users, this means a major competitive advantage (lower operating costs, stronger long-term predictability, and faster site activation) when paired with New Mexico’s recognized site readiness and utility readiness. This combination of affordable power, infrastructure readiness, and streamlined utility timelines creates real certainty for companies looking to expand or relocate, and further positions New Mexico as a top destination for industrial and economic growth
The discussion around industrial opportunity was especially exciting for me, as it directly aligns with my day-to-day work in commercial real estate and my genuine passion for industrial properties and transactions. Hearing how New Mexico is positioned with affordable power, site readiness, and strong job growth only reinforced my enthusiasm for helping businesses find the right industrial spaces to grow and thrive here.
Huge thank you to Kelly Fajardo and the Swire Coca-Cola team for their warm hospitality and to Jennifer James and Albuquerque Business First for the invitation. The venue, the conversations, and the connections made it an incredibly valuable experience, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts as well. What are you finding most exciting or impactful from this year’s upcoming legislative session? And if any of you were in attendance this morning, I’d love to know your biggest takeaway.
