⚠️ Don’t Be Fooled by Proposition 50 — It’s a Power Grab, Not Progress ⚠️
Prop 50 sounds good on the surface — but look closer, and you’ll see it quietly hands control of California’s political maps to the very politicians already in power.
Right now, our voting districts are drawn by an independent citizens’ commission — not lawmakers. That system was built to keep elections fair and stop gerrymandering.
Prop 50 would suspend that independence and let the Legislature redraw the lines however it wants. In other words, the people running for office would get to decide where their own voters come from. That’s not reform — that’s rigging the game.
Supporters claim this is how California can “fight fire with fire” against other states. But fairness isn’t about fighting — it’s about protecting democracy from both sides.
California already leans heavily one way politically. Giving total control to one group only deepens division and silences opposition.
No matter your party, no one should control both the rules and the scoreboard.
