To my fellow warriors today…

For many Americans, Memorial Day means BBQs, traffic, and a long weekend with family. And that’s okay,  freedom was meant to be lived.

But for many of us who served, today feels different.

Today brings back faces, voices, memories, and names that never left us. Brothers and sisters who stood beside us, laughed with us, fought with us… and never made it home.

Civilians may never fully understand that weight and, honestly, they’re not supposed to. That burden belongs to those who wore the uniform and carried the mission.

But to my fellow combat Veterans who may be struggling today: you are not alone.

As SgtMaj Ruiz said in this video, remember the responsibility we still carry. We honor the fallen not only by remembering them, but by continuing to live with purpose, discipline, and service. We carry them forward through the way we lead our families, support each other, and continue the mission here at home.

Check on your people today. Answer the phone. Reach out. Stand shoulder to shoulder like we always have.
