Yes, you really could order a house from the Sears catalog! Between 1908 and 1940, Sears sold an estimated 70,000–75,000 home kits. You picked the design, ordered the materials, and then had it built.

Bob and I have put together a cabinet. I think we’ll leave the house to the professionals. 😂

After 38 years in real estate, I still love the stories behind homes. This gives a whole new meaning to “shopping for a house”!
