Village of Riverwoods Incorp. in 1959 from property originally part of the Ryerson Estate, Riverwoods carries on The Ryerson's tradition of living in harmony with the enviroment.

Riverwoods is a unique community in the Chicago North Shore area that was originally conceived to allow residents to live among the trees. Incorporated in 1959 from property originally part of the Ryerson Estate, Riverwoods carries on Edward Ryerson's tradition of living in harmony with the environment. Situated on the banks of the Des Plaines River, Riverwoods has easy access to the transportation, retail and business amenities of the North Shore but provides a quiet and natural respite from traditional suburban living. Many properties within the village are large heavily wooded lots accessible from private roads where some residents are able to house horses. We are a small community of about 3500 residents and share public services with neighboring villages such as Deerfield, Lincolnshire, Bannockburn and Northbrook. The village is managed by a Mayor and a Board of Trustees. The village also has it own Police Department to service the community.

Volunteers and Artists Needed for Fall Fest 2026

You can help make Fall Fest unforgettable!

The Village is looking for artists, painters and creative volunteers to help bring Fall Fest to life by creating large-scale photo opportunities and backdrops. Projects may include painting woodland and tree scenes, scarecrows, pumpkins, and other festive fall designs.

The Village also needs volunteers ages 15 and older to help with games, pumpkin decorating, set-up, clean-up, and other activities throughout the event.

Share your creativity or lend a helping hand and be part of making the 2026 Fall Fest a fun and memorable day for the whole community!
