Two weeks later and I’m still sore from this race😂.
Was debating on if I was going to run this 50k trail race up until a few days beforehand, I ran a 5 hour trail race 5 weeks before this one and had a pretty bad groin the week after so I only got in 3 total runs leading up to this race but decided that I’m already injured and there’s no refunds so I might as well get my moneys worth.
The first 4 miles went pretty well, it had stopped raining and the course was a little slippery but manageable so I was moving at a great pace and then right after mile 4 defcon 5 happened and it all went downhill from there. I re aggravated my previous injury and knew it was gonna be a very painful day but I kept going. It started pouring the rest of the day and I ended up having to walk a lot of the course for safety reasons but did that stop me from falling 15 times, dislocating my right shoulder at mile 15,having to pop it back in and eventually losing my glasses at some point after mile 23?
Absolutely not.
I was cold, hungry and miserable and every aid station after the halfway point asked me to shut it down because they were concerned for my health and the guy at mile marker 23 told me that I wasn’t going to make it and to just let him drive me back to my car and that really pi**ed me off so I kept going out of spite at that point.
After running for what felt like an eternity after that and not seeing anyone for ages I see a guy along with the last sweeper and she tells me that it’s 4:55 and the end is only about 10 minutes away and not even a minute later the race director calls her and says unfortunately it’s about to storm really bad so we’re stopping the cutoff time at 5:00 pm instead of 5:30 so the last two guys running are getting DNF’s
9:35:02 I spent running this race just to have it end early and not even have it count. The next 3 days were the most painful days I’ve ever experienced and having to do an open house and show properties with steps was pure nightmare fuel but I made it and still waiting on visionworks to call me when my new pair of glasses arrives so I can see again so if you see me out in public before then and I don’t recognize you at first don’t take it personally I have my mothers eye sight.
