This is a demographic trend I'm paying attention to. The Roanoke Valley is already a popular retirement destination. Will it come to be seen as one of several mid-sized "safe haven" cities for people who want to escape the changes they're seeing in big cities?

City emigration from NYC, CHI, LA, & SF due to COVID-19 is accelerating a decade-long pattern of people leaving the harsh concrete jungle for a better quality of life.

Well, its official. As of this moment, there are fewer than 1,000 residential properties for sale in the Roanoke area. This counts all property types -- single family homes, townhouses, and condos -- and is for Roanoke MLS zones 0100-0700, including Roanoke, Salem, and the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt, Bedford, and Franklin. Hi Everyone, Here are the local real estate stats for the Roanoke Valley for March, 2020. Since real estate sales typically take 30-45 days to close, these sale numbers (for the most part) show buyer activity in the weeks prior to the economic breaks being applied. Since the market was strong, these numbers look great, but you can see the start of some growth in inventory, as buyer traffic slowed starting in late March. The data over the next couple months will give us a better idea of how hard the local market has been hit. FYI for those of you thinking of buying or selling, inventory has stayed relatively stable (and low). If a personal consultation for your situation would be helpful, give us a call.
