Thank you Asher Bechor for your review: My search for my first home was off to a rough start before I found Tim - my original realtor never signed a contract with me and ghosted me two months into the homebuying process. She gave no warning or reason, she just stopped replying and never showed up for the tours planned for that weekend.
I was left scrambling to find a new realtor in the middle of the process. I interviewed several realtors before deciding to go with Tim. Most of the interviews took about fifteen minutes, but Tim spent over an hour discussing his extensive qualifications, educating me, and answering questions. I learned more from that conversation than I'd learned from anyone I'd encountered in the homebuying process up until that point, including my last realtor and lender.
So Tim came in with a tight timetable, an unfamiliar (and unresponsive) lender, and a buyer with limited means working off the missing or incorrect information given by their previous realtor. I was losing hope that I'd find a home at all, but Tim turned that around for me.
Prior to even starting the process of looking at homes, Tim sat down with me to learn more about me. He asked questions about my lifestyle, hobbies, and interests. He took that information and used it to help me prioritize my needs, even going so far as to point out things to look for or avoid that I hadn't previously considered. He gave me a realistic assessment on what compromises would make the most sense with my budget and needs. Though my budget was limited, he respected what was important to me and helped me figure out options to make those things work.
He also provided me with educational resources on the homebuying process, and took the time to go over them with me one by one to make sure I understood them. He is clearly passionate about his field and enjoyed discussing it. Even for concepts he previously explained, he would check for my understanding as things came up that made them directly relevant, and clarify information as needed. He did a fantastic job breaking down information to make it more accessible. He even educated me on options for financial aid.
Tim was straightforward and honest about potential issues with homes. On one notable incident, we went to look at a home that I had a bad feeling about from the moment I parked, but felt an obligation to look at because I'd already asked him to drive over to see it. We didn't get far into exploring it before he said "I can't sell you this house in good conscience, and here's why," then proceeded to list all of my initial concerns along with multiple dealbreakers I hadn't even considered yet. As a young first-time homebuyer buying a house by myself, I wanted a home that needed minimal work, and that house would have been a nightmare for me. It was a relief to realize I could just walk away from a home that clearly wouldn't work for me instead of ‘giving it a chance’ even though I knew it wouldn't work out, and a comfort that he clearly cared more about matching me with the right fit than making a quick sale.
He's very knowledgeable and well-connected, with a network of contacts that have nothing but good things to say about him as a realtor or person. It's clear that he's a valued and active member of the community in Roanoke. He was able to coordinate various inspections quickly with trustworthy individuals and kept me in the loop throughout the process. He was even able to attend a follow-up inspection for me that I could not get off work before.
Tim was not only my realtor but my advocate, and he always made it clear he had my best interests at heart. He ensured that all promised repairs were completed prior to closing and stayed on top of following up with the seller to prevent delays in closing - something I was very worried about, as it would have left me without housing. Even after I moved into this house, he's been exceptionally supportive and responsive. Though he's under no obligation to help me, he treats me with the same care as he did when he was working for me.
He gave me a lovely gift basket with items from local vendors, and even included thoughtful gifts for my dog - a wonderful way to celebrate giving him the big yard that I'd been dreaming of for so long. He called me on my birthday and sent me gift cards for local restaurants. He checked in with me multiple times after I purchased the house to make sure everything was going okay, and offered to help when issues came up.
His support has been invaluable; I can't imagine how stressful and confusing buying a home would have been without his help. In all honesty, I don't know that I even could've gone through with it. I feel extremely lucky that I was referred to him and I am incredibly grateful that I chose him as my realtor.
