The old Baron’s Inn in Fairhope, which has sat vacant for years, is undergoing a complete renovation.
Little Point Clear, a local wedding venue, purchased the property and plans to transform it into a new hotel called the Little Point Scenic Inn.
Located at 701 S. Mobile St. along Scenic 98, Baron’s Inn, originally called the Magnolia Inn, first opened in 1953. The building has been vacant since 2020 after Hurricane Sally, but after its purchase by Little Point Clear, work is already underway to renovate the property.
The purchase is more than just a business venture. Kyle Dorgan, manager for Little Point Clear, said his grandfather originally owned and developed the property before eventually selling it. He said he hopes the hotel will accommodate both large groups coming to town for weddings and events as well as visitors looking for a scenic place to stay in Fairhope close to Mobile Bay.
“From what we know in big groups coming in, (like) weddings here at the venue, there's some additional accommodating needed, especially for larger groups, but just the average folks coming to visit Fairhope, we’d love if they wanted to be with a view of the bay somewhat and just walking distance to a sunset and just being able to go to downtown Fairhope, whether it be a bike ride or golf carts,” Dorgan said. “Just unique combinations that fit Fairhope with that coastal kind of vibe Fairhope is known for.”
A project of this scale would need approval from the City of Fairhope, but Dorgan said his conversations with city officials have been “amazing.” He added that they have already received a permit to repair and re-engineer the roofs, allowing renovation work to begin. The project includes restoring the 24 guest rooms, with additional plans for landscaping. There are also plans to include both indoor and outdoor space for guests.
Dorgan called the project a “long process,” but they plan to open the doors in early 2027.
