It's that time of year! Lawn mowing is here! We have a lot of tenants that are responsible for the lawn care at their units. Here are some tips for lawn care this summer:

Rake
Spring raking removes lingering fall leaves and grass blades that didn't survive winter. Left alone, these dead blades add to your lawn's thatch layer. Raking also loosens matted grass clumps caused by snow mold, which can smother new growth.

Mow
Start mowing when the ground is dry enough and grass is long enough to require cutting. Cut at the proper height for your type of grass. Avoid mowing too low. Grass cut too short allows sunlight to reach soil, encouraging w**d seeds to germinate. It also favors shallow root development, which makes the lawn more easily susceptible to drought stress.
If you prune (mow) grass at the right height, you'll create a low-maintenance, more drought-tolerant lawn that's not easily infested by w**ds.
During periods of peak growth, expect to mow the lawn once every 5-7 days. Conversely, during times of slowest growth, you'll mow less, if at all.

Other Rules of Mowing
• Mow the lawn when grass is dry.
• Mowing during the cooler part of the day is easier on the
mower.
• Mow the lawn with a sharp blade.
• Mow the lawn in alternating patterns and directions to
avoid creating ruts and compacted soil.

SPRING CLEANING TIP:

Test Smoke Detectors-

* Clean all detectors. Dust and contaminants can interfere with
a smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke.
* Test all smoke detectors to ensure the battery and alarm
sounder are operating.

Did you know?? Part 2:

Things You Should Never Put Down A Garbage Disposal

5. Stringy, Fibrous Foods
Never put veggies like celery, onion peels, lettuce, corn husks, asparagus etc. down your garbage disposal. These items can get wrapped around the blades and could break the disposal.

6. Pits or Seeds
Many fruits have pits…peaches, cherries, even avocados! Trust us when we say the pit will 100% not make it through your garbage disposal if it’s dropped down there. If you by accident drop a pit down your sink, make sure your disposal is turned OFF before reaching down there to retrieve the pit.

7. Coffee Grounds
While we all need our morning cup of joe in the AM, watch where you put those coffee grounds. Over time, the grounds can put some wear and tear on the blades.

If you have the luxury of having a garbage disposal, make sure you take care of it! Putting harmful foods and liquids down your drain can not only break the disposal itself, but it can lead to clogged kitchen drains and leaky pipes under your sink.
