Yesterday I had coffee with Maggie Coleman!

Sometimes the most successful careers begin with a decision to walk away from the path that seemed perfectl

For Maggie Coleman of RE/MAX Plus in Rochester, that decision came just as she was dangerously close to earning a degree in Chemical Engineering from University at Buffalo and settling into what she jokingly imagined might be a predictable desk job.
Born and raised in Buffalo with her older sister and two younger brothers, Maggie had always been a hard worker. But somewhere along the way, she began feeling a pull toward something different. She enrolled in a real estate licensing course.
Maggie passed the exam—and only then told her closest family and friends that she had decided to change directions and jump into the real estate business.
What followed was anything but predictable.
Through hard work, relationship building and a willingness to embrace something that came naturally to her—social media—Maggie has built a multimillion-dollar real estate business and established herself as a recognizable voice in the Rochester community.
Ironically, the woman who describes herself as an introvert is completely comfortable stepping in front of a camera. From Facebook and Instagram videos to fitness-focused content, Maggie has turned her personality, humor and authenticity into a powerful way of connecting with people.
But her influence extends beyond real estate.
Passionate about exercise and wellness, Maggie shares her fitness journey online. Her love of staying active inspired her to create a grassroots women’s walking group. What began as a way to stay active quickly grew into a successful community, bringing women together to walk, connect and build relationships.
The group’s popularity caught the attention of local media. Maggie was asked to requests for Maggie to interview with a Rochester news station.
From a Buffalo girl who nearly became a chemical engineer to a Rochester real estate entrepreneur, social-media personality, her story is a reminder that the best career move is the one you never planned to make. Her success proves you don't have to be the loudest person in the room to make a big impact. Chris F**k

Coffee, Community & a Friendly Rivalry: Getting to Know Julie Forney

PITTSFORD, N.Y. —In Pittsford, it seems everyone knows someone you know. Sometimes, all it takes is a cup of coffee to discover just how much you have in common.

That was the case when I recently met Julie Forney at Common Ground Coffee House in Schoen Place.

Julie and I are both Pittsford residents and Realtors, with a shared appreciation for the community we call home. We also discovered that our families have experienced Pittsford from opposite sides of one of the town’s most familiar rivalries.

My two children graduated from Pittsford Sutherland. Julie’s two attended Pittsford Mendon.

Thankfully, we decided to leave the rivalry at the door and enjoy a great conversation over coffee!

Julie has been a Realtor with Howard Hanna for more than 20 years, but her path to real estate took a few turns. A lifelong Rochester resident and State University of Geneseo graduate, Julie began her career working on the assembly line at Alliance Tool & Die before moving to Jay Advertising to work in her field.

Her introduction to real estate came when she and her husband purchased their first home. Their Realtor was Richard Sarkis, and the two hit it off. Julie eventually took a chance, earned her real estate license and joined the profession.
Two decades later, that chance has certainly paid off. Julie and Richard have built a successful partnership, complementing each other beautifully as they help clients navigate the real estate market.

But real estate is only part of Julie’s busy life.

When she isn’t helping buyers and sellers, Julie can be found on the soccer or baseball field cheering on her sons, Jackson and Colden. She is also active with the sports booster organization and volunteers with the Pittsford Food Cupboard.

Julie’s story is a great reminder that being part of a community means more than simply living here. It’s about building relationships, supporting local families and giving back.

While Julie and I may never agree on whether Mendon or Sutherland deserves bragging rights, we can certainly agree on one thing Pittsford is a great place to call home!

I recently caught up with Josh in the Village of Fairport to talk about his journey.

After graduating from high school, Josh attended St. John Fisher. But after completing his junior year, he decided to follow a longtime passion and headed to Los Angeles to pursue acting. He landed a few small movie roles, but soon discovered that opportunities were limited.

Josh returned home to Fairport to complete his senior year at St. John Fisher. Still, the acting bug hadn't disappeared. After graduation, he headed to New York City, where he found work in commercials and print advertising. To make ends meet, he also waited tables at Red Lobster while continuing to pursue acting.

Eventually, Josh decided it was time to return home again.

Back in Fairport, a friend suggested he try his hand at real estate and introduced him to Mark Siwiec. That introduction launched Josh into a new career—and, as they say, the rest is history.

Today, Josh brings the same determination and people skills that helped him navigate the unpredictable world of acting to his work in real estate. But for him, being back in Fairport means more than a career opportunity. It's home.

Josh and his wife are raising their young family in the same community where he grew up, giving him a unique perspective on what makes Fairport such a special place to live.

When he's not helping clients find their next home, Josh enjoys spending time with his family and playing tennis.

For Josh Bartolotta, the road home to Fairport took him through Hollywood, New York City and a few unexpected career turns. Today, he’s a Realtor with Keller Williams, a husband and father, and happily raising his two sons, ages 3 and 6, in the community where he grew up.

His journey may have taken him far from Fairport, but ultimately, it brought him right back to where he belonged.
