MANUFACTURED HOMES A TOOL TO HOUSING CRISIS? Municipalities are looking for solutions to the affordable housing crisis in New York and some are turning to manufactured homes. The City of Rochester recently sold 9 vacant lots to Cook Properties, a company that will build manufactured homes on each of them and then sell those homes to city residents. CEO Jeff Cook tells me pre-fab homes have come a long way over the last few decades (2x6 walls, Energy Star, basements). Price points for a manufactured home are about $100/sq. ft whereas a site-built home is around $300/sq. ft+ What do you think? Would you consider it?
