Just like our clocks this weekend in the majority of the country, the housing market will soon “spring forward!” Similar to tension in a spring, the lack of inventory available for sale in the market right now is what is holding back the market.

There is a good chance you've been hearing about the hot real estate market. Like many homeowners you might be considering a move but you've been waiting for the right time. As a real estate professional I'm thrilled to report a positive outlook for those who are thinking about selling.
Below are statistics that indicate it may be a sellers market.
- According to the National Association of Realtors inventory of available homes has decreased 7.1% from January 2016 to January 2017. In January of 2017 there was a 3.6 month supply of homes, this is below the 6 month supply that many real estate professionals consider normal.
- The number of homes sold according to the National Associations of Realtors was 15.4% percent higher in January 2016 to January 2017, this dramatic increase in sales signifies a hot real estate market. Additionally the number of homes for sale during the same time period is 8% lower. Fewer homes for sale generally indicates a sellers market.
- Additionally the National Associations of Realtors reported that single family home prices nationwide have risen 7.1% from January 2016 to January 2017.

Three ways to ease your fears about making a move

With low inventory in many markets throughout the country, many homeowners are afraid to sell their homes because they’re concerned that they may not be able to find a new one. This can be a real problem, but if you are seeking to sell—whether to upgrade or find a new neighborhood—there are a few ways to combat the low inventory.

Look to buy first In most markets it is a real mistake to put your home up for sale before you start looking for your new property. Identify the geographic area where you are interested in buying.

Think outside the box Be proactive! Keep in mind that there are probably many people like you who want to make a move but are afraid as well. Have your real estate agent send a letter to the neighborhoods in the geographic areas where you want to live. The letter should be heartfelt and personal while announcing that you are ready to buy a home in that neighborhood. You could find a home to buy that may not even be currently listed or for sale.
