Some things are worth the splurge. These are five I’d happily spend money on again.

If you’re spending a day, weekend, or settling into life around Folsom + El Dorado Hills, these are a few of my local picks:

1. Sutter Street Steakhouse for a proper dinner in Historic Folsom.
2. The NOW in El Dorado Hills when you need an actual reset.
3. Karen’s Bakery for the pastry case alone.
4. ELDO Chophouse when dinner calls for something a little more elevated.
5. Lake Natoma when the best money spent is on a kayak or paddleboard and a few hours outside.

These are the kinds of places and experiences that make me love living here, and there’s a lot more where these came from.

Funny thing is, I don’t think little me would have ever answered “Realtor.”

I probably didn’t have the words for what I wanted to be.

I wanted to grow up and build a life I loved. To be a faithful wife, a present mama, a good sister, daughter and friend.

And I wanted to be someone people felt safe with. Someone they could call when life felt complicated, exciting, scary or uncertain.

Somewhere along the way, real estate became part of that too.

Because buying or selling a home is rarely just about the house. There’s usually a whole life happening behind it.

A marriage. A baby. A new job. Aging parents. A fresh start. A hard goodbye. A dream someone has been working toward for years.

I get to walk into those moments and help make them feel a little more manageable.

So maybe I did grow up to be exactly what I wanted to be.

Just not in the way little me would have expected. 🤍

If your parents have lived in the same home for 20 or 30 years, their first instinct may be to start fixing everything before they sell.

New flooring. New countertops. Updated bathrooms. Fresh landscaping. Maybe even a full kitchen remodel.

But before they spend thousands of dollars, I would want to look at the house first.

What matters is not whether the home is completely updated. It is whether the money they spend will actually improve their position when they sell.

Sometimes a few strategic improvements can make a big difference.

Other times, the better decision is to clean, declutter, handle deferred maintenance, price the home appropriately, and let the next owner make it their own.

I look at the condition of the home, recent neighborhood sales, what competing homes look like, and what buyers are actually paying for before recommending where a seller should spend money.

The goal is not to make the house perfect.

The goal is to avoid spending $20,000 to make $5,000 back.

A lot of real estate happens in the car.

Not just the driving part.

It’s calling the listing agent before a showing to get more context on a property.

Reviewing disclosures before my clients walk through the door.

Checking comparable sales when something feels overpriced.

Coordinating with lenders, escrow, inspectors, contractors, and other agents.

Updating clients when something changes.

And sometimes negotiating from a parking lot because real estate does not always wait until you’re back at your desk.

Most of this work is never seen by my clients, and that’s kind of the point.

My job is to stay ahead of the details so they don’t have to.

So if you ever see me sitting in my car outside a house staring very seriously at my phone, I promise there’s a decent chance I’m actually working.

This weekend, Kylie and I spent some time volunteering at Fat Kitty City through National Charity League, and I think it’s safe to say the cats were the highlight. 🤍

One of the things I’ve really appreciated about NCL is getting to serve alongside my daughter. It gives us time together, introduces her to organizations doing meaningful work in our community, and reminds both of us that sometimes helping looks as simple as showing up, getting your hands dirty, and giving a little attention to some very deserving animals.

Fat Kitty City is quite the place, and these cats clearly know how to make themselves comfortable. 😂 We worked, we loved on a few kitties, and we definitely left with some favorites.

Grateful for another volunteer day with my girl and for the organizations in our community that quietly do so much good.

Another set of keys officially handed over.

This transaction had its share of moving parts behind the scenes, but today is about the finish line: closed at $445,000 and a new chapter beginning for my buyers.
