Winter Storm Prep for Homeowners & Drivers
With a winter storm headed our way, a little preparation can go a long way. Save this post and stay safe
🏠 Protect Your Home
• Cover outdoor faucets & disconnect hoses
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Keep your thermostat at a steady temperature, even overnight
💧 Prevent Frozen Pipes
• Let faucets drip slightly during extreme cold
• Know where your main water shut-off valve is located
🌳 Outdoor Prep
• Secure or bring in patio furniture & décor
• Park vehicles away from trees
🔦 Be Storm-Ready
• Charge phones and battery packs
• Have flashlights, blankets, water, food, and pet supplies ready
• Fill water bottles and tub to use if needed.
🚗 If You MUST Drive on Ice
• Slow down: drive well below the speed limit
• Increase following distance (8–10 seconds if possible)
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
• Brake gently and early
• If you start to skid, ease off the gas and steer in the direction of the skid
• Bridges and overpasses freeze first, use extra caution
Stay warm, stay safe, and share this to help others prepare
