ALL THINGS KINEO!

Join us Thursday at 4:00 p.m. for the final History by the Lake program of the season as Greenville native and retired University of Maine professor Dr. Nathan Hamilton presents All Things Kineo.

Nathan will take us through the many layers of Mount Kineo’s history—from its remarkable geology and early maps to Native American archaeology, the succession of hotels built there over more than 150 years, and the Oakes family’s ownership of the property.

The presentation will feature many original photographs, along with several remarkable items Nathan is bringing for the audience to see—including Native American baskets and the first guest register from the Kineo Hotel.

Nathan will also answer questions and promises to have a few surprises in store.

Free and open to the public.

✈️🚢 𝐓𝐖𝐎 𝐈𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐒 𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝟓𝟐𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐄 𝐅𝐋𝐘-𝐈𝐍 🚢✈️

Yesterday, spectators at Greenville’s Annual Fly-In witnessed something truly special when Folsom’s DC-3 on floats, the only one of its kind in the world, flew over the Steamship Katahdin, a living museum, in a stunning display over Moosehead Lake.

Not only are these two of the largest vessels on Maine’s largest lake, they are also two of the most enduring icons of the Moosehead Lake Region.

The Katahdin was built by Bath Iron Works in 1914 and launched on Moosehead Lake shortly thereafter. Folsom’s DC-3 has been roaring through the skies over Moosehead since 1990.

This rare encounter between two legendary pieces of Moosehead history speaks to the region’s rich past and enduring spirit—and made for an unforgettable moment for everyone lucky enough to witness it. ❤️
