Leaving Hatteras Island? Please consider your options before getting in line.
The line for the emergency ferry at Rodanthe already exceeds today’s remaining ferry capacity. We are receiving reports of approximately 500 vehicles waiting in line, with only four more ferries scheduled today, carrying an average of 25 vehicles each.
If you are considering leaving Hatteras Island today, please be aware that you may not be able to board a ferry today. If your travel can wait, please consider departing another day.
NCDOT has announced that N.C. 12 on Ocracoke Island has reopened, allowing limited Hatteras–Ocracoke ferry service to resume. Travelers may be able to reach the mainland from Ocracoke by ferry to Swan Quarter or Cedar Island. Reservations for those routes are highly recommended before departing for Ocracoke.
