You’ve cleaned, you’ve decluttered, you’ve put out the "For Sale" sign, and… crickets. In the dating world, getting ghosted is annoying. In the real estate world, getting ghosted by buyers is expensive.

The “Clutter” Cloud
Buyers need to visualize their life in your house, not your life. If every surface is covered in family photos, trophies, and mail, their brains can’t process the space. They end up feeling cramped and overwhelmed.

The Fix: Think of this as “pre-packing.” Get a storage unit for your extra knick-knacks and oversized furniture. You want your rooms to feel as large and neutral as possible.

So, you did it. You sat through the mountain of paperwork, signed your name more times than a celebrity, and finally, the keys were dropped into your palm.

Many buyers walk into their new home with nothing but a key and a dream. To make the transition smoother, follow our ultimate "Survival Kit" with the things you need to have in your car, not buried in a box in a moving truck.

The “Magic Wand” Cleaning Arsenal
Even a “broom-clean” house usually needs a little extra love before you start unpacking your life into it. You’ll want to wipe down the inside of cabinets, sanitize the counters, and maybe give the floors a quick once-over before the furniture arrives and covers everything up.

What to pack:
- All-Purpose Disinfectant Spray: For counters, doorknobs, and light switches.
- Paper Towels & Microfiber Cloths: You’ll go through a roll of paper towels faster than you think.
- Trash Bags: The heavy-duty kind. You’ll be generating a lot of waste from unboxing and cleaning.
- A Broom and Dustpan: Essential for those “where did this glitter come from?” moments left behind by the previous residents.

When you look for perfection, you’re looking for a finished product that matches your current taste 100%. But your taste will change, and more importantly, you can change the house. What you can’t change is the location, the lot size, or the price you paid.

Understanding Your “Must-Haves” vs. “Nice-to-Haves”
Before you even step foot in a showing, you need a clear, written list. It’s easy to get swept up in the excitement of a vaulted ceiling and forget that you actually need a home office.

Take out a piece of paper (or a tablet) and make two columns:

- Non-Negotiables: These are things you cannot change. Number of bedrooms, a specific lot size, or a garage.

- The Wish List: These are the “perfect” elements. Granite countertops, hardwood floors, or a finished basement.

If a house meets all your non-negotiables but none of your wish list items, it is still a “good enough” house that can eventually become your dream home. DM for our house hunting checklist to help narrow down what’s important.

Sellers Google this late at night…

Selling your home on Long Island typically costs 6–8% when all fees are counted.

Typical costs include real estate commissions, attorney fees, NY transfer tax and property tax adjustments.

The “I’m Not a Contractor” Panic
When a buyer see a tarnished doorknob, a cracked window pane, or a ceiling fan covered in three years of dust, they don’t just see a small chore. They see a “money pit.”

Small maintenance issues signal to a buyer that the big things (like the HVAC or the plumbing) might have been neglected too. As we’ve seen in recent market research, lack of maintenance is a top reason deals fall through or never start.

The Fix: Spend a weekend doing the “Small Stuff”
- Replace burnt-out lightbulbs
- Tighten loose cabinet handles
- Oil squeaky doors
- Power-wash the front walkway

So, you did it. You sat through the mountain of paperwork, signed your name more times than a celebrity, and finally, the keys were dropped into your palm.

Many buyers walk into their new home with nothing but a key and a dream. To make the transition smoother, follow our ultimate "Survival Kit" with the things you need to have in your car, not buried in a box in a moving truck.

The “Throne Room” Basics (Trust Us, You Need This)
If there is one thing that can turn a “yay, we own a house!” mood into a “why did we do this?” mood, it’s realized, too late, that the bathrooms are completely empty. No matter how clean the previous owners were, you’re going to want your own supplies the second you cross the threshold.

What to pack:
- Toilet Paper: Pack more than you think.
- Hand Soap & a Hand Towel: You’ll be touching a lot of dusty surfaces.
- A Shower Curtain and Rings: There is nothing worse than wanting a hot shower after a long day of moving and realizing there’s no curtain to keep the water in the tub.
- Basic Toiletry Bag: Toothbrush, toothpaste, and some aspirin (moving-day headaches are real).

We’ve seen it a thousand times: the boxes are all labeled “Bathroom,” but they are at the very back of the truck. Having a small “Day One” bag in your trunk saves you from a world of stress.
