When you look for perfection, you’re looking for a finished product that matches your current taste 100%. But your taste will change, and more importantly, you can change the house. What you can’t change is the location, the lot size, or the price you paid.
Understanding Your “Must-Haves” vs. “Nice-to-Haves”
Before you even step foot in a showing, you need a clear, written list. It’s easy to get swept up in the excitement of a vaulted ceiling and forget that you actually need a home office.
Take out a piece of paper (or a tablet) and make two columns:
- Non-Negotiables: These are things you cannot change. Number of bedrooms, a specific lot size, or a garage.
- The Wish List: These are the “perfect” elements. Granite countertops, hardwood floors, or a finished basement.
If a house meets all your non-negotiables but none of your wish list items, it is still a “good enough” house that can eventually become your dream home. DM for our house hunting checklist to help narrow down what’s important.
