The blackberry vines are heavy and the hot rods are rolling into town. It's Blackberry Festival weekend.

The 38th Annual Sutherlin Blackberry Festival runs Friday through Sunday, August 14–16, at Central Park in Sutherlin — and admission is free.

Saturday is the big one: pancake breakfast with the Senior Center, close to 200 cars in the show, mud volleyball, BMX races for the kids, and the blackberry cook-off. Then the classic car cruise takes over Central Avenue from 6 to 9, with Hecktic Week playing the half shell.

Sunday brings the motorcycle show, the bike build-off, the chili cook-off, and the mud races at 11.

Here's the part we love most — it's run by volunteers, and the proceeds go toward scholarships for local high school and trade school students. Grab a $5 raffle ticket for the '56 Ford F100 while you're there. You might drive it home.

We'll be out cruising all weekend. Come say hi.
