Yesterday, eight doors opened.

Eight families received more than keys—
they received possibility,
stability,
a place to dream,
and a place to belong.

At the home dedication on Sayonara Drive in Citrus Heights, I watched hope become a home.

For several years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Homeowner Selection Committee, and today was especially meaningful. Two of the families I had the honor of visiting, encouraging, and helping through the selection process received the keys to their new homes.

There are moments when you realize a house is much more than walls and a roof.
It’s bedtime stories.
Family dinners.
Holiday traditions.
A safe place to land after a hard day.
A foundation for a brighter future.

My heart is full of gratitude for Habitat for Humanity and the incredible volunteers, donors, sponsors, staff, and partner families who make these life-changing opportunities possible.

Yesterday eight families became homeowners.
And all of us were reminded of the power of community.

Today I had the honor of attending the Memorial Day program at Sylvan Cemetery in Citrus Heights and it was beautifully done. The Mayor, Chief of Police, City Manager, and several veterans shared heartfelt words that reminded all of us why this day matters so much and is part of the fabric + culture of our country.

What made it especially meaningful was experiencing it alongside my brother Dave, retired Navy, and his wife Joy. I asked Dave if he had ever experienced loss firsthand during his service, and the story he shared truly touched my heart. I can only imagine the sorrow and shock those Navy men must have carried after losing four airmen — and yet they still had to move forward and serve with courage and strength.

Today, and every day, I’m grateful for the brave men and women of the United States military who have sacrificed so much — especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🇺🇸
