I pitched a tantrum and wouldn't leave an open house until my Aunt swore she was going to move in. My first real job was in the '80s as a Wilhelmina model in New York. Food was not an option so after too many carrots I moved on to acting with a stint on Miami Vice, some B films and a Neil Simon play. I took a break in California to go skiing and eat good Mexican food and ended up in Sacramento, wh

ere I had a wonderful family and a 20+ year career in the luxury automotive business. When I told my kids I wanted to make a career change, my oldest son said, “Mom, all you do is drag us around to open houses… even when we’re on vacation! Why don’t you just sell real estate?” So, I did and the rest is history!

“Success in the restaurant business was not easy at all.”
That line stayed with me.

In a world where we see apps built overnight and headlines about rapid exits, it is easy to believe success should be quick. Immediate. Exponential.

But for most people, it is not. It is years of long hours.
It is trial and error.
It is showing up when the results are not obvious yet.

In this clip from Episode 13 of "This Dream Is Yours", we talk about the contrast between the dot-com era and today’s startup culture, and how real, lasting success often looks much slower than we expect.

The truth is, most meaningful things take time.

What does it take to wait twelve years for a dream?

In this moment from Episode 13 of "This Dream Is Yours", I ask Bulent how he found the strength to persevere through the long road to the United States. How he kept going when it was not easy. And how he protected his mindset from discouragement along the way.

His answer is honest. Persistence is not glamorous. It is daily. It is disciplined. It is choosing hope when the outcome is not guaranteed.

If you are in a season of waiting or building, this part of his story will speak to you.

I may have left this interview craving Greek food… but I also left with something much deeper.

Yes, Mati is incredible.
Yes, I am still thinking about it.

But what stayed with me most was the reminder that hard work compounds. Quietly. Over time. Without shortcuts.

Bulent’s journey is not overnight success. It is years of persistence, faith, and showing up when it would have been easier to stop.
And when I find myself in a season that feels heavy or uncertain, I know this is a conversation I will revisit. Because grit is not loud. It is steady.

Many in Sacramento already know Bülent’s name. From Rose Park Bistro in Roseville to Fiori Italian Pizzeria in Folsom, and most recently Mati Modern Greek in Roseville, his restaurants are beautifully designed, thoughtfully curated, and unforgettable.

But what impressed me most was not the resume. It was the journey.

A farmer from Turkey. Twelve years of persistence to secure a visa. A life rebuilt through determination, faith, and relentless grit.

Some conversations stay with you long after the cameras stop rolling.

Bulent’s story is one of grit in its truest form. From Turkey to the United States. From humble beginnings to building something extraordinary. But what moved me most was not just what he built, it was how he built it.

There is a quiet strength in someone who refuses to quit.

This episode of "This Dream Is Yours" is about perseverance, vision, and honoring the long road it sometimes takes to step into your calling.

Behind every episode… there are a few laughs, a few resets, and a lot of gratitude.

Episode 13 was one of those conversations that reminds me why I started "This Dream Is Yours" in the first place.

Stories of resilience never get old.

Coming Friday, May 29.

Some stories make you pause.

Not because of the accolades.
Not because of the outcome.
But because of the endurance it took to get there.

This conversation reminded me that success is rarely sudden. It is layered. Quiet. Built over years most people never see.

What stood out most was not the restaurants or the recognition. It was the patience. The persistence. The willingness to keep going when the path was uncertain.

Episode 13 of "This Dream Is Yours" is one of those stories that lingers with you.
Releasing Friday, May 29.

Behind every polished conversation is a whole lot of unseen work.

The lighting. The camera angles. The setup. The takes. The little adjustments that make the message land the way it’s meant to.

This is your reminder that the “result” always has a process behind it, and most of it happens off camera.

More episodes of "This Dream Is Yours" are on the way. And I’m grateful you’re here for the build.
