So nice spending the afternoon with my parents yesterday🫶🏽

I love listening to the stories of how they grew up in Puerto Rico.

My father is one of 10 kids and both of my grandfathers were business owners.

Maybe that's where I got the entrepreneurial spirit from.

I can't imagine moving a family that large to another state or or country😅

Life was so different back then.

My dad said he would get up at 5:30am to go to the bakery to get 5 loves of 🥖 so their nanny could make his favorite French toast🤤

My mom told stories of my grandfather owning a bodega and the challenges that came with that.

She also brought her famous pasta with chicken (Spanish style of course, lol) that my kids love.

I'm looking forward to spring ☀️where we can sit outside and enjoy more family time🍔🌭

This is a photo of me right after I cut all my hair off.

You see a woman with short hair. I see a woman accepting her true self for the first time.

My hair was permanently straightened since I was 5 years old. When my parents moved to NY from Puerto Rico, in the early 70s, curly hair was not in style.

It wasn't until I had daughters that my mindset on my hair changed.

My 2 older daughters had these gorgeous curls that sprung happiness into every room. I loved their curls and I wanted them to love their curls too. My youngest daughter was born with straight hair like my husband. How she longed for those bouncy curls her sisters had!

One day my daughter asked me why I straightened my hair. She wanted to straighten her hair too.

Why would my girls ever want to straighten their gorgeous curls? It was at that moment I realized that by straightening my hair, I was telling my daughters that curls were not good.

I started to grow my hair. My roots were curly and the ends straight. I lived in that awkward stage for a long time. One day I wanted to cut my processed hair off and the next day I didn't.

Would the world accept me with curly hair? I wasn't sure.

All my life I thought straight hair was more professional, prettier, BETTER.

Finally I walked in a local hair salon and decided to cut all my processed hair off 🫣

Everyone in the salon was over the top with excitement and flattery. My curly hair was cute, it was natural and it was ME.

This photo was the first time I presented this new me to the world. We were on our way to the grand opening of our bridal accessories store that we had moved to Sea Cliff. Everyone was going to be there and everyone was going to see my curly hair. I was excited and terrified all at once.

To say I love my natural curly hair now is an understatement. I haven't blown out my hair in years. My hair makes me stand out and makes me unique. My curls make me feel confident. They are low maintenance and quick to style. They allow me to be my true authentic self and that is priceless! I love my curls!
