My question would be… How are these states going to do to collect/replace the money that they from property taxes? How are they going to pay for infrastructure, schools, public servants, etc?

Frustration over rising tax bills has sparked a 2026 property tax revolt, with 13 states weighing proposals to eliminate or sharply reduce property taxes. Lawmakers are floating homestead exemptions, phased repeals, or full replacements with higher sales or consumption taxes.

Because property taxes fund schools, roads, and emergency services, replacing them would require major budget overhauls—and in most cases, voter approval.

Divided Federal Reserve officials at their January meeting indicated that further interest rate cuts should be paused for now and could resume later in the year only if inflation cooperates.

Members were conflicted between fighting inflation and supporting the labor market, according to minutes released Wednesday from the Jan. 27-28 Federal Open Market Committee meeting.

What’s next?

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have sharply increased their mortgage-backed securities holdings, a move that could help push mortgage rates lower.

Since May, the two have added more than $55 billion in mortgage balances, up over 30%, bringing combined holdings to $234 billion, the highest level in four years. Analysts told Bloomberg the total could grow by another $100 billion next year.

Officials have offered no explanation, fueling speculation the buildup could be tied to a potential public stock offering or an effort to help lower mortgage rates.

Good for buyers but, this will definitely lead to a worse economic depression.
