💳 Fannie Mae Drops 620 Credit Score Rule — Big Win for Borrowers 🏠
Starting Nov. 16, Fannie Mae will no longer require a 620 minimum credit score, giving lenders more flexibility when assessing borrower risk, according to Florida Realtors® (2025). The change applies to loans processed through its Desktop Underwriter (DU) system, which will now rely on Fannie Mae’s own risk analysis rather than a fixed FICO cutoff. The updated DU model evaluates a borrower’s full financial picture — credit history plus non-credit factors — to determine eligibility. FHFA Director Bill Pulte called the move a “big deal for consumers” but a “small or nothing deal for underwriting.” Borrowers with limited or no credit history will also see new guidance: lenders may document nontraditional credit and require homebuyer education. These updates take effect for all DU submissions starting the weekend of Nov. 15, 2025. 🔑📊
