Discovered an open wire splice literally hanging by a string in an attic during a recent inspection.

The potential threat this poses to the home is vast simply because open wire splices have the potential to cause fires within the home by over-heating or sparking over time. Open wire splices can be dangerous and should be tended to as early as possible when noticed!

When was the last time you had your attic thoroughly inspected by a professional?

Got mold? Here is a quick recap of the month's mold-control tips to take into consideration when battling the moldy areas in your home!

When it comes to mold it's important to know that most mold grows in warm and moist areas. One of the quickest ways to eliminate mold is to ventilate the affected area!

By allowing consistent air flow through the affected area, it cuts off any sources of moisture that contribute to the mold growth itself and this will significantly help to reverse the expansion of it. Typically opening up a window near the moldy area or turning on a fan will get the ball rolling.

Furthermore, utilizing an air purifier with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter will help to eliminate the mold spores in the air. Air purifiers like these helps to improve the indoor air quality within your home.

With autumn slowly approaching, it's time to prepare our homes for a new season before it arrives! Taking the time to check on vital home appliances, such as a furnace, tend to always be worth the effort.

Be proactive! Have your furnace inspected to test for leaks, check heating efficiency, and to examine the filter usage before the colder seasons arrive. Running a carbon monoxide check to ensure air safety is also a good idea during this time.

Protip: Stock up on extra air filters and change them every few months as a suggested maintenance practice for your home!

Turning off your a/c when you leave the house doesn't actually save you money on your energy bill!

While your a/c unit may not be running, it's when you come back home and turn it on that negates the "energy saving" narrative as the unit will have to work much harder, possibly overtime, to cool down your entire home.

Experts suggests setting your thermostat 5-10 degrees warmer while away from home to help manage your energy costs.

Step 3B: Repair/Replace Wood/Dry Rot! Professional Style

If there is STRUCTURAL damage or ROOF damage BRING IN A PROFESSIONAL! At least that's my recommendation!!!!

Your safety is worth the money to make sure it's done correctly! Do you agree?!?! If yes then, get a professional that will repair the dry rot/damage, repaint or seal, and fix the original problem that allowed the moisture to get into the wood in the first place. This might be anything from a leaky gutter to a leaky roof to leaky plumbing in the wall. I'll go over more causes in another post.

This is where money comes into play if the work is extensive. If you've had a pest inspection done they will usually give you a quote to repair the work. But I recommend you SHOP AROUND! Get a couple quotes from trusted local licensed contractors and then decide who you'd like to use.
