Senior citizens age 65 or older or fully disabled persons living within the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) may apply for a 70 percent reduction in their Measure A Mello-Roos Tax Assessment (levy #0155).

In 1987 and 1998, voters in Elk Grove Unified School District approved Measure A bond measures to help finance school facilities improvements at every school in the District. By approving these measures, the voters authorized District administrators to sell bonds and agreed to a Mello-Roos special property tax assessment for repayment of the bond debt.

In order to qualify for the 70% reduction:

The applicant must be at least 65 years of age (as of June 30) or fully disabled as defined by the State Controller’s Office.
No school-age children have lived in the residence during the previous 24 months.

The reduction is allowed only for the applicant’s residence; all other properties are subject to the full tax. If the applicant rents his or her home or resides in a mobile home park, the landlord/owner must certify that the amount of the tax reduction will be passed along to the applicant.
