The Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento will get an $11 million renovation so it can host Broadway shows, the ballet, the opera and the philharmonic orchestra while the Community Center Theater gets its own facelift.

"Silicon Valley has become inhospitable for housing, particularly in San Francisco, which, by the way, is part of the Valley in most people's mind. The Valley has never been just one city, but a contiguous region that includes the big city just north of it. But back to the big problem this region is facing: because of the housing crisis, and factors affecting quality-of-life, people are leaving the Valley in droves and a disproportionate share are moving to the Sacramento region. According to the US Census Bureau, more than 20,000 people from the Bay Area are relocating north."

If we reimagine Silicon Valley's borders -- and stretch them to include our northern neighbors and everyone in between -- things could get better if not just more interesting. There are economic, technological, and political dimensions to this story.

Earlier this year, DSP introduced a new branding identity for the area which encompasses the stretch of J, K, and L streets between 13th and 5th streets.
