PLEASE TAKE A MEMENT TO READ FOR YOUR BENEFIT.
Last Monday my email was hacked by an organizations that makes the communication you received, if you did receive it, look very authentic. In the email was an invitation to a “special event” which also tried to get you to click on it to open it only to access your contacts as well and infect your device.
If you try to access it on any mobile device, it would not allow you to, but would direct you to using a desktop to open the attachment. If you received that email while you were using a Windows PC, AND you clicked on the link to open it, there are a couple of things you may wish to do even if the link appeared to do nothing.
1) Change the password on your email,
2) Look for a program called “ScreenConnect” in your Installed Apps. If it is there, delete it. You can accomplish this by using the search bar in the tray of your Home Screen. Just go to the search option and type in “Installed Apps” and once there, scroll through your apps to look for ScreenConnect. If you see it, use the 3 little dots to the right of the app listing and select “uninstall”.
3) Finally, take your PC off the internet and use your security software to scan your PC.
From what I am told by several people that attempted to open the email with an Apple product, the link gave them an error message asking them to use a Windows PC to open it, so it appears that the link only affects Windows PC’s.
My sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused any of you. I also appreciate over 100 people reaching out letting me know that they got it and asked if they were to open it, was it really me. There’s just no way for me to tell who did get it so I can’t reach out to each of you individually. Just know that I have hired somebody to take care of this from happening in the future by putting a two-step authentication factor on my phone and my desktop. They have also put an extra layer on to never send more than five recipients an email at one time. The hacker sent it to God only knows how many. Thank you for your understanding and patience in advance. It is amazing to me how easy it is for people that know what they’re doing to infiltrate your system and ruin a few days of your life. Unbelievable but it could have been worse, I’m sure.
