RIVER Notes- Short & sweet coupla days catching up on quiet time with family. We visited fish running up fish ladders to insure the future in more ways than one. Grateful for the engineers that saw the real need for millions of fish…that then feed hundreds of others. A simple, working economy, balanced on occasion.

ALEWIVE STRONG- On The River where Salmon used to rule not too long ago. TheSHOclub.org crew members made the trek, tested the PH and other important components important to a Salmon Habitat Recovery Effort in our adopted wilderness river. What we found was not only promising, but energizing, as we observed these anadromous fish blasting past the invasive chain pickerel gangs in May for the second year in a row. Anecdotally relevant, scientifically exciting as proof positive this can be done. We needed it as the crew was enveloped this time of year in insects of all kinds. Environmentally positive, but we also scared away any potential bears, as we looked insane. Aaarrrggghhh. LIVING OUR BEST LIVES- Often involves some learned practices, suggested by those more evolved than my own best thinking. As an example I try not to take things personally because more often than not, it isn’t about me. Another gem is that it is not possible for me to be grateful at the same time as I hold onto a resentment. PLANT Now so you’re not waiting through a frost come fall to harvest. The Stripers are here now, so the water is 55 or better. Bass are great fillets, and solid for simple fish chowder with thyme & black pepper. The weakfish arrive when the lilacs bloom, next week at the latest? Also known as Sea Trout, cooked on a spoon of coconut oil and a squeeze of lime.

WRITING a script, making dinner for 24 both have eery similarities to dreaming up a house and getting it built. There are a hundred or more people that’ll help you with both, and as a developer, you get to cherry-pick the best parts. There is magic that happens when they come together on tone, color and timing. No straight lines, (pun intended for both the carpenter and the screenwriter), and the common theme of them all is longing. Building the house one imagines Led Zeppelin or Pavarotti in the finished Home. Writing the script, one imagines ‘the nod’ where an audience identifies with something…anything. The chef balances the perfect savory gravy with the lemon curd in the dessert. Step aside folks…we are in the business of imperfect miracles, but all are invited as we cannot do this alone.
