Attention City of Saginaw Residents: The Saginaw Fire Department is instituting a city-wide ban on all outdoor burning, effective immediately, June 2, 2023, in response to forecasted dry weather conditions that will create the potential for extreme fire danger.
The ban on open-air fires and outdoor burning applies to all public and private property for the entirety of the City of Saginaw. The ban includes and applies to all open-air burning including residential recreational fires. The ban will remain in effect until there is a sustained measure of rainfall as determined by the Fire Chief and the Fire Marshal. Violators are subject to a $1,000 fine while this ban is in effect.
Residents are also reminded of the City’s ordinance which bans the use of fireworks at this time. The City’s Pyrotechnics and Consumer Fireworks Ordinance only allows for the use of consumer fireworks from June 29 to July 4, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. and concluding at 11:45 p.m. each day. Violations of this ordinance are also subject to a $1,000 fine.
Fire Marshal Derron Suchodolski commented on the ban, “The National Weather Service is predicting an extended period of dry weather conditions with little to no precipitation predicted in the near future. This makes it easy for fires to start and spread. Recreational fire pits, fireworks and discarded ci******es make for a dangerous combination. This is a precautionary measure to protect life and property in the City of Saginaw.”
