I have a client that recently told me they decided to holdoff on purchasing a property on the water here in FL because they want to see what happens in October with the insurance issues.
What do you think they are referring to?
Does this change with Citizens go into effect in October or is there something else coming?

Answer:
Hi Jason, he is referring to:

Elected Officials Appealing FEMA's Decision to Eliminate Flood Community Discounts of 25% for Lee County, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Estero, and Fort Myers Beach

It could mean average of $300 per year increase on flood polices.

FEMA claimed the county did not submit the necessary documentation to retain the discount. Officials are meeting weekly with FEMA to resolve the paperwork needed to retain the discount.

As of May 9th Cape Coral announced that it reached its goal of providing full documentation to FEMA, potentially keeping its 25% discount on National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) premiums throughout the city.

Lee County officials say they are on track to complete the information as well.

Lee County’s team of subject matter experts are well along in the process of preparing and submitting data to ensure a thorough response for the FEMA June 10 deadline.
