St. Marys Area School District Real Estate Tax Billing Inaccuracies: Special Notice from City of St. Marys Tax Collector Tom Nicklas

The County of Elk transitioned to a new bill processing system prior to the issuance of the 2026 St. Marys Area School District real estate tax bills. Due to technical issues, a number of billing inaccuracies have been identified. These issues include, but are not limited to, bills being addressed to previous owners, prior owner information, and other mistakes.

The incorrect bills cannot be identified individually by the Tax Collector’s Office or the Elk County Assessment Office. As such, taxpayers who recognize inaccuracies on bills they received, or, more importantly, who have not received anticipated bills must contact the City Tax Office so that corrections can be made.

Failure to receive a tax notice does not relieve any taxpayer from liability for prompt payment of taxes imposed by the taxing district. All taxpayers are charged for their taxes as though they had received notice, and all necessary enforcement steps are taken to ensure payment. (Reference: 1945 Act 394, Local Tax Collection Law, Section 7, Effect of Failure to Receive Tax Notice)

🏡 Closed!

Some transactions are straightforward... and some truly test everyone's patience and persistence. This foreclosure definitely fell into the second category..
