“Stupidity or perseverance. You call it.” Is what the previous owner said as we talked about the number of businesses that came and went as Lee’s Chicken St. Marys marched forward for the last 33 years. In the end the final comment was, “We’re happy we’re FINALLY finished! Thanks!”
Congratulations to Robert and Karla Burden! Thank you for allowing my wife and I to assist in reaching your retirement goal. With that I’m going with perseverance, they just don’t make the old-style businesspeople of back in the day, today. Chiseled out of pure gusto and determination not to fail.
Lee’s Chicken in St. Marys came to life in 1990 when the Burdens purchased the old 7-Eleven and transformed it into an icon for the last 33 years. They also had a Lee’s Chicken in Wapakoneta and Minster but slowly have been cruising into retirement.
As I talked with Bob, we reminisced of old businesses in the immediate neighborhood. SOHIO Station, Little Caesars, Clark Station, Happy Humpty, Kmart, Potbury Ford, Bud’s Chevy, and an Ohio patrol station. Some gone for good others in newer locations.
Progress just keeps rolling forward. The new owners of Lee’s Chicken St. Marys plan on keeping the restaurant going. Just taking a little break to update the building that Bob wore out. Again, I will go with perseverance which is defined as: The continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition: The action or condition or an instance of persevering: steadfastness. I witnessed this as I saw a spot on the floor in the restaurant that has been worn through layers and layers of flooring to keep the restaurant moving forward and succeed. Where? Bob’s office.
Once again CONGRATULATIONS and HAPPY RETIREMENT!
Sincerely,
Hector and Jetta Hernandez
