The 🍂Fall Art Crawl🍂 is here! And the Calendula Gallery has set up something really cool here at the Northwestern. When you stop by to see our amazing artists, you will also have the opportunity to get a caricature of you and your Crawl companions!

The St Paul 🍂Fall Art Crawl🍂 begins tomorrow!

Below you'll see some images of Robert's work, and here's what has been intriguing him lately:

As a photographer of buildings, my main subject, I have been given
unusual access to old warehouses and industrial structures. They fall into two categories that echo two camps people who have completed a career may well find familiar. Some of the buildings, such as the Pillsbury A Mill in Minneapolis, have simply stopped being used in their normal capacity. Everything is still in working order but ready for a momentous transition. In the case of the Pillsbury A Mill, this means all the machinery for producing flour is being carted off and the buildings will receive a new incarnation as condominiums and lofts.

I have done some work in black and white, but I have found that color reveals the true essence of these old buildings. All the effects of age and decay come out in color and form an unexpected beauty that is not seen in black and white photographs. The rusting machinery and hardware, the water-stained floors, the peeling layers of paint on the walls, all contribute great depths of color and form the essence of my vision of these old structures.

The St Paul 🍂Fall Art Crawl🍂 is this week!

Ky Robinson discovered his passion for art at a young age, captivated by the stories that art can tell. His journey as an artist has led him to develop a distinctive style, primarily working with oil and acrylic on canvas. In each of his paintings, he sees a narrative ready to unfold—a silent dialogue between the artwork and its observer. He is fascinated by the multitude of stories that might emerge within the viewer. To Ky, art is not just about what is seen, but what is felt and imagined. His ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between his world and that of the viewer, fostering a shared exploration of stories and emotions that connect us all. In art, he finds a universal language that transcends boundaries, offering a space for discovery, understanding, and inspiration.

The St Paul 🍂Fall Art Crawl🍂 is just one week away!

Be sure to stop by the Northwestern Building while you're out and about October 16-18 to see the of drawings, paintings, old and new designs in amber, and healing gems of Sean McLaughlin!

Sean McLaughlin has shown his art with John Cage, Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk, Cindy Sherman, Richard Serra, Paul Rotterdam, Sue Coe, and more. He is a Member of the International Amber Association Retired. His work with Northern and Central European folk art, folklore, and traditional jewelry can be found on his community page Baltic Imports. This fall he was honored in Rīga, Latvia by the Latvian Foreign Ministry for his work preserving and educating about the traditional folk arts. The Fall Crawl will showcase selected old and new jewelry designs as well as intimate small paintings and drawings.
