🚨 Condo Owners: You May Be Missing Out on Insurance Benefits
Many condo owners don’t realize that their HO-6 homeowners insurance policy may help cover special assessments that result from hurricane damage to the building’s common areas.
I recently listed a condo for sale, and my client shared that they had to pay over $7,000 in special assessments after hurricane damage. The good news? Their homeowners insurance reimbursed $5,000 because their policy included Loss Assessment Coverage.
If your condo association assessed owners for hurricane-related repairs:
âś… Review the homeowners insurance policy that covered your condo on the date of the hurricane.
âś… Check your Loss Assessment Coverage limits.
✅ If you’re covered, contact your insurance company to ask about filing a claim.
You may need:
• Your HOA special assessment letter
• Proof that the assessment was related to hurricane damage
• Proof of payment
⏳ Don’t wait too long. Some insurance policies require Loss Assessment claims to be reported within a specific timeframe after the assessment is announced.
Every policy is different, so coverage depends on your policy language.
A few minutes spent reviewing your policy could help you recover money you’ve already paid.
