This photo takes me back to one of the most defining projects in my journey — building this stone patio with my dad. 🪨

What started as an unused, overgrown patch of our front yard became a full transformation. But more than that, it became the foundation of my learning and my passion for home projects. 💡

This job was all about setting grade and building something solid from the ground up — literally and figuratively. As we uncovered what was beneath the surface, I learned how to pivot, problem-solve, and keep going when the project threw curveballs.

This wasn’t just laying stones.
It was hand digging. 🪏
Setting grade.
Installing a sprinkler system. 💦
Lifting 80-pound retaining blocks one by one. 💪🏽
Cutting stone, learning to work with cement, and discovering the satisfaction of doing things the right way. 💯

But the best part? The confidence I built along the way — in my skills, in my passion, and in the realization that I genuinely love this work.

That overgrown space turned into a beautiful stone patio with a reverse retaining wall… and it also turned into the foundation of everything that led me to start JT1. 🩵

Wondering why we’re called Just the One — or JT1? The story behind the name is one I’m proud of.

On the surface, Just the One is simple: in a world full of contractors and handymen, we aim to be just the one you call — reliable, committed, and fully invested in every project we take on.

But the name goes deeper than that.

My dad, Joe, has been in the contracting world for over 40 years. His first company was J&T Construction, named for Joe & Tyler. And coincidentally, my own initials are TJ — the same two letters, just swapped.

So when we were building this business, keeping the “JT” felt natural. It honors the craft, the mentorship, and the years of hands-on learning passed from father to son. It carries forward the letters that shaped how I learned to build.

And that’s how JT1 was born — a name rooted in reliability, family, and the belief that when you choose us, you’re choosing the one contractor fully dedicated to getting your project done right.

When my wife and I bought our first home, we were blinded by the potential. We saw opportunity everywhere—but we were also naïve about what it would take to turn that “diamond in the rough” into the home we envisioned.

Through the ups, downs, and long weekends, we learned what real sweat equity looks like. And somewhere in that process, something clicked: this wasn’t just trial and error… it was a true passion for building.

Over the last five years, I’ve taken on project after project—inside, outside, big, small. And I was lucky enough to learn not from YouTube, but directly from my dad, a contractor with over 40 years of experience. He’s done it all—built homes, run his own contracting business (spy my shirt logo!), worked as a superintendent—and he taught me the craft the right way.

That hands-on training, backed with my construction license, lit a fire in me. And now, I’m excited to bring that same care, expertise, and dedication into other people’s homes.

Because your problem becomes our project. Your inspiration becomes our work. And we treat your home as if it were our own.
