Tonya, I do not know how to invite people to this page. When I created it I had the opportunity to invite people to join, but very few people saw the invitation. Can you help me with this?

It looks like the Staton school (or just the land, one acre) was donated in 1912 by William and Sara Staton. In 1952 when Moko school was annexed to Salem, the school house became the Moko community building.

Note-school district 19 was called Staton School district, not Moko school district.
Also, both the Statons made ‘their mark’ indicating they could not read or write.

There is another document showing the Statons were granted a home stead Paton of 120 acres, on December 15, 1882.

Welcome, this is Dianna Williams pedigo.
The old Moko one room school house, now Moko community building is in danger of falling down. If we do not start repairing the building, it may not be around for the next generation.
This page is an attempt to generate revenue, and help with repairs of that building.
Shannon Bassham, Ray Perkins, and….
are the managers of the building.
Any donations should be sent to them, but maybe we can get work parties corroborated through this page.
(Although, any work that is done needs to be autherized by the building managers.)

Joyce perkins, suggested a painting party….i think that might get the ball rolling? I think we need a sign put up. (I think everyone has forgotten what that building is!)

I am going to start clearing the fence lines.
Lonnie Perry has been mowing the property, and hopefully will continue to do so.
Gloria Williams Saladino
Rhonda Williams Reynolds, is going to start cleaning out the inside. (It is currently being used for storage.)

Any ideas for generating revenue to get our community building up and running again, would be appreciated! We also do not have a long term plan for sustaining the building in the future.

I was thinking of maybe paying dues,
Donations,
Donations from those who use it, or
Charging a small fee for using the building.

Any ideas?
